What is the BIYSC?

Bainbridge Island Youth Soccer Club is a private, non-profit organization that was incorporated in 1983 to run soccer programs for youth ages 6 to 18.  It consists of players, their parents, coaches and volunteer board members.  Although there is some paid coaching staff, the organization is mostly run by volunteers.  The Club’s membership includes an equal representation of girls and boys.  Two thirds are recreational soccer players and one third is select soccer players.

How many people on Bainbridge Island use the athletic fields?

In 2006, Bainbridge Island Youth Soccer Club had 1,099 members in four programs:
Fall Recreational Soccer – 61 teams; 709 participants; 109 volunteers
Select Soccer – 22 teams; 340 participants; 44 volunteers
Spring Recreational Soccer – 21 teams; 156 participants; 22 volunteers
This year, it added TOP Soccer, a league for kids with disabilities with 50 participants and 50 volunteers.

The Parks has a soccer program with 500 participants from age 3 to 8.  In addition, there are 200 adult soccer players.  Bainbridge Island Little League has 840 players and Babe Ruth Baseball has 300 players.  Bainbridge Island Boys and Girls Lacrosse have 400 players.  All of these programs share six full-sized fields and six small fields.  Total, there are 3,240 players using twelve fields.  That’s a lot of wear and tear.   In addition, the school programs also use their fields.
